What Is Promilaj?
Promilaj is a tool that estimates your blood alcohol level. It shows the legal limits of your country and estimates when you can drive. The calculation is based on the Seidl (2000) formula published in an international peer-reviewed journal. The formula was developed in the German population; estimation accuracy may vary across different body types.
This tool does not provide medical advice, legal advice, or safety guidance; it cannot be used to determine whether you can drive. Actual BAC is affected by many factors that this calculator cannot measure. According to scientific data, calculations made with this tool may have varying margins of error from person to person.

Even if your alcohol level appears to be zero, individual differences can alter the calculation and its effect on you.
Do not consume alcoholic beverages if you are pregnant or suspect you might be. Scientific studies show that alcohol passes into breast milk during breastfeeding. In such a case, we recommend waiting for your alcohol level to drop to zero and consulting your doctor. This app is not suitable for these individuals.
Why Do We Ask for This Information?
Weight, height, and the type of drink you consume directly affect your blood alcohol level. The information you enter is used solely for calculation purposes. Without collecting any personal/identifiable data, the app's statistical data may be shared with third parties.
Biological Sex vs. Gender
The Seidl model is based on the ratio of water and fat in the body, so it asks for biological sex (male/female). This question is not related to your gender identity; it is only for metabolic calculation. When the same amount of alcohol is consumed, the calculated value may differ due to differences related to biological sex.
What Is Promille (‰)?
Promille means per thousand. A BAC of 1‰ means 1 gram of alcohol per 1,000 grams of blood. Promille is used instead of percent because blood alcohol levels are expressed in very small amounts.
What Does a Police Breathalyzer Measure?
Police breathalyzers measure alcohol in your breath (BrAC — Breath Alcohol Concentration), not directly in your blood (BAC). The device converts the BrAC reading to an estimated BAC using a conversion factor of approximately 2100:1, which can vary between individuals. Both methods — the Seidl model and the breathalyzer — aim to estimate BAC.
How Are the Legal Limits in Promilaj Determined?
The legal BAC limits in Promilaj have been determined based on the official government sources and traffic legislation of each country as of March 2026. The displayed limits reflect the standard rules applicable to general drivers. Different limits for groups such as novice drivers, commercial vehicle drivers, or categories requiring a special license are not included in this calculation. Legal regulations may change over time; we recommend consulting the official authorities of the relevant country for up-to-date information suitable for your personal situation.
